£2m Sales Deal for Innovative Welsh Company
Welsh company, Dermastar Ltd has signed an exclusive agreement with Medibiotech to distribute its revolutionary acne treatment unit AcneStar® to
South East Asia - where sales potential exceeds £2million per year.
AcneStar® was created by Professor Harryono Judodihardjo, medical director
of the Cellite Clinic in Cardiff.
AcneStar® combines an established clinical procedure - blue light treatment - with precision engineering, resulting in a handheld device which enables acne patients to safely treat their skin breakouts whilst at home, or even away on holiday.
”The idea behind AcneStar was very simple”, explained the professor.” People have busy lives, and finding time to visit a clinic for treatment can be difficult. I thought about how useful the mobile phone is and wondered whether the technology might be available to provide treatment for moderate acne conditions in a product of a similar size and one that could fit into a
bag, or a pocket.”
Medibiotech was set up in 1996 to carry out trade in medical and pharmaceutical products with the Brunei government through the Ministry of Health.
Dr Asri Taha is Medibiotech's executive chairman, "The market for acne treatment devices is rapidly expanding. Based on US, UK, Canadian and Australian 2004 statistics, the proposed distribution countries have an estimated 26 million acne sufferers - so there is huge market potential for a device such as AcneStar®.
Negotiations are currently underway for further distribution deals with several blue chip companies in the UK.
