Hints & Tips
Be gentle- Some soaps or cleansers may contain alcohol, which are harsh on the skin.
Use a gentle cleanser which will be sensitive to your natural PH levels. Ask your
pharmacist for further advice on which products are best suited to your personal
skin care needs.
Washing- Luke warm water is best to cleanse the face as water which is too hot
can dehydrate the skin and water too cold can dry the skin. Do not use facial
cloths as these can transfer the bacteria. Use a clean soft towel and gently pat
the face dry.
Do not wash too often- It can be tempting to keep washing the skin but this will
do more harm than good and leave it feeling dry, causing further irritation. It is
recommended to wash the skin twice daily.
Moisturise- Moisturising daily will help maintain the skin’s natural moisture and
will provide a protective seal which will improve the condition of your skin.
Good nutrition- Eating a healthy, balanced diet will improve your general wellbeing
which will be reflected in your skin. It is a myth that chocolate is a cause of acne,
however a good diet will improve the condition of the skin. Avoid drinking lots of
caffeinated drinks and alcohol which can lead to dehydration of your skin.
Water- Drink lots of water as this will flush out toxins and transport nutrients
around the body and improve the skin’s appearance.
Sleep- Always make sure that the skin has been cleansed before bedtime. A good
night’s sleep is important for our complexion as the skin heals while we sleep and
sleep deprivation and late nights cause an increase in sebaceous oils. Try not to
lie with your face directly on your pillow as this can transfer the bacteria.
Stress- Try to minimise stress as much as possible and take extra care of your
skin at stressful times as this is linked to an increase in acne.
Keep Active- Exercise increases blood circulation which helps to maintain healthy
skin.
Massage- Massaging the affected area with clean hands increases the blood
circulation which can help reduce skin imperfections.
